Leaders like John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King have made important contributions to the people of the United States. Name another world leader you think is important. Give specific reasons for your choice.

An important world leader must has had great contribution to his/her people and country. And as a Chinese student, to name a such influential personality, one name naturally comes to my mind, it's Deng Xiaoping.

Deng Xiaoping is among the people that have revolutionized China and made great contribution to the foundations of the PRC(People’s Republic of China). However, what has made him more influential and more important than others is his contribution to the Revolution and Opening-up of China's economy ever since the 1970s. And China would probably not have such prosperity had it not been his insight and wisdom.

In the 1970s, since the country put great energy in heavy industry and place great emphasis on political fighting rather than improve people's living standard, people then suffered a lot from shortage of food and other things that are necessary in daily life. It was Deng who changed the situation by carrying out a series of policies and plans in spite of his political rivals and many other obstacles. If Mao Zedong is the leader who had enabled Chinese people to have control over their own destiny, then it’s undoubtedly Deng Xiaoping who had led Chinese people to prosperity.

Deng Xiaoping also has contributed a great deal in bringing Chinese people together and uniting the country. His wisdom of one nation with both communism and capitalism provides the fundamental solution to Hong Kong, Macao, as well as Taiwan issues.

Besides Deng’s political and economical contribution, he’s also admirable for his own personalities.  He is a strong willed person. He didn’t have a smooth political life. And all through his political life, he had been doubted and forced to abdicated his position several times. However, he never gave in or gave up. This might explain why he eventually got back to the leader’s position of Chinese people and lead China to a bright prospect.
